The Greek statue dating to the end of the fifth century bc found in 1918 by
Giacomo Boni on the Palatine hill, now interpreted as an acroterium representing Aura, has been submitted to an archaeometric investigation by minero-petrographic (pxrd, om in thin section) and isotopic analysis (sira by mass-spectrometry) for the identification of its marble. The results indicate that a good quality Pentelic marble has been used by the sculptor. These new data on the Palatine Aura constitute a starting point for future archaeometric comparison with data obtained from other sculptures that have been associated to it, such as the Aura found in the Villa of Herodes Atticus at Loukou (now in the Astros Museum, Greece), and the architectural elements of the Ares Temple in Athens.
