N2 - This contribution focuses on the recent results of reconnaissance and excavations conducted in the area of the Capo di Sorrento maritime villa. The investigations have been directed since 2014 by the Winckelmann Institute in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan area of Naples, the Exzellenzcluster "Topoi" and the Geographical Institute of the Humboldt University of Berlin. The aim pursued in these years has been to reopen the scientific discourse on this monument already known to scholars for a long time. Through an interdisciplinary approach the aim has been to obtain new data and to analyse the monument in relation to the two parts of the villa (the pars maritima and the terraces above), its port and the geomorphology of the site. The first results of the stratigraphic excavations have allowed a more precise and reliable chronology to be established.
