Nanna Bonde Thylstrup

Postdoc

Nanna Bonde Thylstrup is an Assistant Professor at the Aarhus University. She works on the politics of digitization and the uncertainty of big data.

Her book, The Politics of Mass Digitization, is coming out on MIT Press in November 2018.

Currently, Nanna is affiliated with two major research projects at the University of Copenhagen. The first, Uncertain Archives, is a project that seeks to deploy and develop traditional and poststructuralist archival theories to big data environments, focusing in particular on questions of uncertainties, errors, unknowns and vulnerabilities. The second, The Past's Future, examines the role of cultural memory institutions in the digital age, paying special attention to issues related to colonialism, gender and digital infrastructures.

Aktuel forskning

In my current research I examine big data environments through cultural theories of the archive and how big data creates new regimes of interaction and interpretation. I focus on digital infrastructures, and I am in particular interested in how data regimes create new cultural techniques of archiving, regulation,  interpretation and retrieval.

Primære forskningsområder

My main areas of interest are cultural theory, media theory and history, history of technology and science, postcolonial theory, feminist theory and queer theory.
